About the Westwall medal:

The West Wall Medal (German: Deutsches Schutzwall-Ehrenzeichen) was a military and civil decoration of Nazi Germany, instituted on 2 August 1939. It was originally awarded to individuals who planned, constructed, or contributed to the fortifications along Germany’s western borders, known as the Westwall or the Siegfried Line, between 15 June 1938 and 31 March 1939.

On 13 November 1939, eligibility was expanded to include Wehrmacht servicemen who served on the Westwall for at least ten weeks. A total of 622,064 medals were awarded before the decoration was officially discontinued on 31 January 1941.

The West Wall Medal remains a significant collectible for historians and militaria enthusiasts, representing one of the early Third Reich campaigns to fortify Germany’s western frontier.
