About the GAB:
The General Assault Badge (German: Allgemeines Sturmabzeichen) was a German military award from World War II. The German Army created it for soldiers who joined combat operations but did not serve directly in infantry units.
The award went to members of the German Army, Waffen-SS, and Ordnungspolizei (Order Police). These troops supported infantry assaults but did not qualify for the Infantry Assault Badge.
On June 1, 1940, General Walther von Brauchitsch introduced the decoration. He designed it to recognize the vital role of non-infantry personnel in front-line combat.
