About the Austria medal:

The Anschluss Commemorative Medal (German: Die Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 13. März 1938) was an award issued by Nazi Germany during the interwar period and served as the initial decoration in a series of Occupation Medals.

Established on 1 May 1938, this medal marked the annexation of Austria by the German Reich, known as the Anschluss. German forces crossed into Austria on 12 March 1938 without encountering resistance. The “Anschluss medal” was presented to both military personnel and civilians who contributed to or took part in the annexation. Recipients included German state officials, members of the Wehrmacht and SS who entered Austria, as well as local Nazis who supported unification with Germany, including widows of those who died for the cause. The medal was last awarded on 31 December 1940, with a total of 318,689 medals distributed.
