The national community is, in peace as in war, the nation’s source of strength, from which it receives its constantly renewing life force The national community is thus an immeasurable, immense reality upon which the existence and continued existence of the German people depend. No sacrifice should seem too great for its preservation. Because, as the Führer once said, we know that this struggle is ultimately a struggle for the entire social foundation of our people, for the substance of our lives, we have no other option but to commit ourselves ever more fully to this ideal, precisely in the struggle for it. The War Winter Relief Fund therefore calls upon every German citizen to actively participate again this year, in accordance with its mission. We must and will wholeheartedly justify the trust that the front places in the strength of the homeland. We will create the resources for comprehensive support in this War Winter Relief Fund as well, because the essence of community lies in shared sacrifice.
About the Winterhilfswerk
The Winterhilfswerk des Deutschen Volkes (translated as Winter Relief of the German People), often referred to by its abbreviation Winterhilfswerk (WHW), was an annual fundraising campaign conducted by the National Socialist People’s Welfare (Nationalsozialistische Volkswohlfahrt, or NSV). Founded in 1933, the WHW served as a significant funding source for NSV activities and was the second largest mass organisation in Nazi Germany. While donations were officially voluntary, in practice German citizens were expected to give, facing considerable social pressure to do so.
