About the RKB:
The Reichskolonialbund (RKB), or Reich Colonial League, united Germany’s colonial organizations under a single administration during the Third Reich. Franz Ritter von Epp led the organization and actively promoted Germany’s colonial ambitions. The RKB operated between 1936 and 1943 and became the official voice of the German colonial movement.
After World War I, Germany lost all overseas colonies through the Treaty of Versailles. As a result, several groups campaigned for the return of these territories. The Reichskolonialbund brought these groups together and coordinated their activities. In addition, the organization published magazines, distributed educational materials, and organized public events throughout Germany.
The RKB promoted colonial themes through exhibitions, lectures, rallies, and membership programs. Furthermore, it encouraged public interest in Germany’s former colonies in Africa and the Pacific. Because the Nazi government supported the RKB’s goals, the organization worked closely with other state and party institutions.
