ID Cards

These ID Cards “The German Mother” (or in German: Ausweis “Der Deutschen Mutter”) came with the mothers cross. Instructions on how and when to wear the Mother’s Cross were provided on a separate “Information Card” (Merkblatt), and also printed on the reverse side of the official ID card (Ausweis) that accompanied the medal.

A loose translation of the text on the back of this ID card is as follows:

Information Sheet about Wearing the Honor Cross

When is the Honor Cross worn?

On all holidays, e.g., May 1st – Labor Day – Führer’s birthday – Memorial Day for the Fallen, as well as Easter – Pentecost – Christmas. Furthermore, at family celebrations, funerals, and commemorations.

How is the Honor Cross worn?

Only for formal occasions and only on the blue-white ribbon around the neck. Never on a lapel.

What alternative exists besides wearing the decoration?

For street wear, a blue-white bow with a miniature cross or just the blue-white bow can be worn. (Available in all relevant shops.)

What is inappropriate?

Wearing the Honor Cross on a chain or as a brooch. Wearing it to work.

Since German mothers always wear their awarded decorations in everyday life with pride and dignity bestowed by the Führer, they are advised to wear them accordingly. For weekdays, it is recommended to use the above-mentioned small version with blue-white bow.
