About the item:

Very nice and in very condition armband “Im dienst der Deutschen Wehmacht”

About the Armband:

Initially, the Army Mobilization Order of March 12, 1937 introduced numerous identification armbands to distinguish personnel assigned to specific duties within the German Armed Forces. At the time, personnel wore these armbands on the upper left sleeve, regardless of whether they appeared in uniform or civilian clothing. Importantly, individuals used the armbands only while performing the specific duty identified.

As World War II expanded, the Wehrmacht increasingly relied on non‑uniformed, non‑German civilians for auxiliary and support roles. Consequently, existing identification methods proved insufficient. As a result, military authorities introduced additional armbands to clearly identify civilians serving in a military capacity across all branches of the armed forces.

Specifically, the Wehrmacht introduced this armband on October 1, 1941. It identified non‑German civilians and Russian auxiliaries when they served the armed forces outside of uniform. In addition, the armband measures approximately 40 cm in length and 10.5 cm in height. It features a white cotton/rayon construction with black printed lettering on the front that reads:

“Im Dienst der Deutschen Wehrmacht”
(“In Service of the German Armed Forces”)

Furthermore, the reverse side displays a machine‑stitched vertical seam. Altogether, these characteristics reflect standard wartime production and period‑correct manufacturing methods.
