About the DRL:
The DRL sports badge (Deutsches Reichsabzeichen für Leibesübungen) was a German award for physical fitness and sporting achievement during the National Socialist period.
In 1933, the badge was officially renamed the German National Sports Badge (Deutsches Reichssportabzeichen). It was also commonly referred to as the Reich Sports Badge, and from 1937 onward, as the German National Award for Physical Exercise.
The award recognized achievement in mass sports and physical training, promoting fitness among civilians and military personnel. It was awarded in several classes, including bronze, silver, and gold, depending on performance.
On 1 July 1937, authorities elevated the badge to the status of a state decoration (order). From that moment, it held greater prestige and could be worn alongside other official awards.
The DRL badge continued to be awarded until 1944, making it one of the most widespread sporting awards of the period.
