About the item:

This Italian-German Campaign Medal in Africa (Lorioli – Milano) is in very good condition and retains strong detail. The medal comes with an original piece of ribbon, which adds to its authenticity and collector value.

About the Medal:

The medal was introduced by the Kingdom of Italy in 1942 during World War II. It recognized soldiers who served in the North African Campaign. Italy awarded the medal to both Italian and German troops who participated in joint operations in North Africa. On 8 January 1943, General Giovanni Magli confirmed the official decree for the award. Furthermore, engraver Roberto De Marchis designed the medal. His name appears beneath the crocodile on original examples.

Political Changes and Wearing Regulations

However, the situation changed later in the war. After Italy declared war on Germany on 13 October 1943, German authorities withdrew permission to wear Italian royal awards. On 29 March 1944, the German High Command formally prohibited wearing decorations like the Italian German Campaign Medal Africa.
