German People’s Winter Relief Fund 1942/43
Working men and women stand on the front lines for their people, sacrificing their wages and salaries
During the period of the Winter Relief Fund 1942/43, it amounts to 10% of the current monthly income tax, excluding the war surcharge. As before, it will be withheld by management and remitted to the responsible WHW office. These monthly contributions are calculated according to the income tax table valid from July 1, 1942 (10% of the italicized figures = income tax excluding the war surcharge). Wage and salary earners who pay less than 2.50 RM in income tax or are exempt from income tax altogether contribute 25 Rpf each month. Employees in the tax-privileged eastern territories contribute the same amount, based on their monthly gross earnings, as those in the rest of the Reich. The special tax breaks applicable there are disregarded when calculating the contributions. Anyone who does not agree with the withholding should contact their management immediately
About the Winterhilfswerk
The Winterhilfswerk des Deutschen Volkes (translated as Winter Relief of the German People), often referred to by its abbreviation Winterhilfswerk (WHW), was an annual fundraising campaign conducted by the National Socialist People’s Welfare (Nationalsozialistische Volkswohlfahrt, or NSV). Founded in 1933, the WHW served as a significant funding source for NSV activities and was the second largest mass organisation in Nazi Germany. While donations were officially voluntary, in practice German citizens were expected to give, facing considerable social pressure to do so.
