WW2 Luftwaffe Dessert Spoon – 1940 Dated Fl.UV. Issue

This original WW2 Luftwaffe dessert spoon represents an authentic piece of German airbase mess hall tableware (Fliegerunterkunft-Besteck). The aluminum handle features official property stamps from the German Air Force Administration. Furthermore, this piece displays clear manufacturer markings alongside a 1940 wartime date.

Physical Features and Markings

  • Luftwaffe Eagle Stamp: First, the front tip of the handle displays a detailed drop-tail Luftwaffe eagle clutching a swastika.

  • Fl.UV. Administration Mark: Meanwhile, the reverse end features the crisp block stamp “FL.UV.” (Flieger-Unterkunft-Verwaltung).

  • Maker Code & Date: In addition, the back neck shows the manufacturer stamp “W.F.N. 40”.

  • Aluminum Build: Finally, the single-piece molded aluminum construction provided lightweight durability for airbase mess halls.

Historical Context and Usage

The Flieger-Unterkunft-Verwaltung managed administrative quarters, airfields, and canteen operations across all Air Force installations. Consequently, supply officers stamped mess hall equipment with official administration marks to maintain strict inventory control.

Personnel used these smaller utility spoons for desserts, soups, and beverages in airbase dining facilities throughout the war. Production reached peak efficiency in 1940 as airfields expanded rapidly during early wartime campaigns. Therefore, 1940-dated aluminum examples bearing complete, legibly stamped markings offer strong appeal for aviation militaria collectors.
