About the Wehrpass:
The Wehrpass was a military service record issued during the era of Nazi Germany, following the reintroduction of compulsory military service. Starting in 1935, this document was distributed to all military-eligible male citizens and served as an official record of their fitness for service, along with other personal details.
Unlike other military documents, the Wehrpass remained in the possession of the individual and was used to identify oneself to military authorities. Once a person was officially drafted into the German armed forces, the Wehrpass was handed over to the relevant military unit for administrative purposes.
In the event of a soldier’s death, the Wehrpass was returned to the next of kin, serving as a formal acknowledgment of their relative’s military service.
