About the Police in Nazi Germany:
After the Nazi seizure of power at the end of January 1933, the regime immediately began restructuring the police system according to its ideology. As part of this so‑called “National Socialist revolution,” one of the first steps was the dissolution of police trade unions.
Most police organizations—especially the influential Schrader Association—had adopted democratic positions, which made them targets of Nazi hostility. By destroying these organizations, the regime eliminated potential resistance from officers who supported democratic principles.
At the same time, the Nazis exploited existing structures to spread propaganda and accelerate the “Gleichschaltung” (coordination) of the police and its associations. For example, they used former union platforms, such as association newspapers, to promote their ideology.
Membership forms for the newly established National Socialist “Kameradschaftsbund Deutscher Polizeibeamter e. V.” (Comradeship League of German Police Officials) were distributed as inserts in the August issue of the association newspaper. This publication had previously belonged to the Schrader Association, which was dissolved on 29 July 1933.
