WW2 Luftwaffe Mess Hall Spoon – 1939 Dated Fl.UV. Issue

This original WW2 Luftwaffe mess hall spoon represents an authentic piece of German airbase canteen tableware (Fliegerunterkunft-Besteck). The cast aluminum handle features official property stamps from the German Air Force Administration. Furthermore, this piece displays clear maker markings alongside a pre-war 1939 date.

Physical Features and Markings

  • Luftwaffe Eagle Stamp: First, the front tip of the handle displays a detailed drop-tail Luftwaffe eagle holding a swastika.

  • Fl.UV. Administration Mark: Meanwhile, the reverse end features the crisp block stamp “FL.UV.” (Flieger-Unterkunft-Verwaltung).

  • Maker Code & Date: In addition, the back neck shows the manufacturer stamp “F.B.M. 39”.

  • Solid Construction: Finally, the single-piece molded aluminum build provided durability for heavy everyday use.

Historical Context and Usage

The Flieger-Unterkunft-Verwaltung managed housing quarters, dining halls, and administrative posts across all airbases. Consequently, supply officers stamped all dining hall cutlery with official property marks to track airfield equipment.

Flight crews, ground technicians, and service personnel used these standardized utensils during daily mess hall meals. Early pre-war production from 1939 utilized high-grade aluminum before mid-war material shortages caused shifts in manufacturing. Therefore, 1939-dated examples bearing complete, sharp markings remain highly collectible militaria artifacts.
