About the Hitler Youth:
The Hitler Youth (Hitlerjugend or HJ) served as the official youth organization of the Nazi Party. Party leaders founded the organization in 1922 and officially adopted the name Hitler-Jugend, Bund deutscher Arbeiterjugend in 1926.
From 1936 to 1945, Nazi authorities made the Hitler Youth the only official youth organization for boys in Germany. The League of German Girls (BDM) served as the equivalent organization for girls. The Hitler Youth consisted of two main divisions. Boys aged 14 to 18 joined the Hitler Youth. Younger boys aged 10 to 13 entered the Deutsches Jungvolk (DJ).
The organization combined physical activities with political instruction. Leaders taught Nazi ideology, encouraged loyalty to Adolf Hitler, and provided paramilitary-style training. Through these programs, the Nazi regime sought to influence and shape German youth during the Third Reich.
