About the BDM:

The League of German Girls (German: Bund Deutscher Mädel, or BDM) was the female branch of the Hitler Youth, the official youth organization of the Nazi Party. It was the only legal youth group for girls in Nazi Germany.

Initially, the BDM was divided into two age-based sections: the Jungmädelbund (“Young Girls’ League”) for girls aged 10 to 14, and the main BDM group for those aged 14 to 18. In 1938, a third section was added—the BDM-Werk Glaube und Schönheit (“Faith and Beauty Society”)—which was voluntary and open to young women aged 17 to 21.

Membership was officially compulsory for all eligible girls, except those excluded for racial reasons. As a result, the BDM became the largest female youth organization of its time, with over 4.5 million members.
