About the item:

Nice, and still in good condition, “book” called “Bombenpass – ausweis für fliegergeschädigte”

About the document:

The Bombenpass (also called Air Raid Victim ID, Care Card for Bombing Victims, or Bombing Certificate) identified people who suffered damage from Allied bombing during World War II. It showed the level of damage: minor, moderate, or total.

Holders used the Bombenpass to get special ration coupons, shopping permits, and other documents for essential goods and emergency supplies. It also gave access to housing support through the German Housing Relief Program (Deutsches Wohnungshilfswerk).

A blue Bombenpass allowed bombed-out individuals to receive free meals for six days from restaurants or mobile kitchens.

The War Damage Compensation Regulation (Kriegssachschädenverordnung) granted cash compensation equal to replacement costs. Homeowners whose houses were damaged or destroyed in air raids could claim this payment.
