About the Wehrmacht:
The Wehrmacht (literally “defense force”) was the unified armed forces of Nazi Germany from 1935 to 1945. It was composed of three branches: the Heer (Army), the Kriegsmarine (Navy), and the Luftwaffe (Air Force).
The term Wehrmacht replaced the earlier designation Reichswehr (Reich Defence) and symbolized the Nazi regime’s aggressive rearmament policies, which openly violated the restrictions of the Treaty of Versailles. As the military backbone of the Third Reich, the Wehrmacht played a central role in World War II, German expansion, and the enforcement of Hitler’s ambitions in Europe.
