About the DFW:
The Deutsches Frauenwerk (DFW), or German Women’s Work, was a National Socialist women’s organization established in October 1933 in Nazi Germany. Alongside the NS-Frauenschaft, the DFW served as a central umbrella group for women’s associations that had been aligned with nationalist and conservative values during the Weimar Republic.
The Nazi regime merged existing women’s organizations into the DFW, including:
- Bund Königin Luise
- Evangelisches Frauenwerk
- Schwesternschaft des Deutschen Roten Kreuzes (German Red Cross Sisterhood)
- Reichsbund der deutschen Hausfrauen (National Association of German Housewives)
This consolidation was part of the broader Gleichschaltung process, aimed at aligning all aspects of society with Nazi ideology, including the role of women in public and private life.
