About the Iron Cross:

The Iron Cross (German: Eisernes Kreuz, abbreviated EK) was a military decoration used by Prussia, the German Empire (1871–1918), and Nazi Germany (1933–1945). Its design features a black cross pattée with a white or silver border. This style came from the Teutonic Order, whose knights wore it as early as the 13th century.

The Iron Cross symbolized military honor and national pride. The Prussian Army, Imperial German Army, and Reichswehr of the Weimar Republic all used it. The Wehrmacht later adopted a variant called the Balkenkreuz (bar cross).

Today, the Bundeswehr, Germany’s modern armed forces, uses the Iron Cross as its official emblem.
