About the Kyffhäuserbund:
The Kyffhäuserbund traces its origins to a section of the Deutscher Kriegerbund (German Warrior League), which in 1900 established a league to unite the scattered German war veterans’ associations. Initially named the Kyffhäuser League of the German Countries’ Warriors Associations (German: Kyffhäuserbund der deutschen Landeskriegerverbände), the organization later became widely known simply as the Kyffhäuserbund.
By 1913, the Kyffhäuserbund had grown to include 2.8 million war veterans, making it one of the largest societies in Germany. The organization also managed the maintenance of memorials and played a political role during the German Empire, being instrumentalized to counter the rise of the social democratic movement.
Today, the Kyffhäuserbund is recognized as a historic veterans’ association with deep roots in Germany’s military and social history.
