About the Afrikakorps:
The German Africa Corps (Deutsches Afrikakorps, DAK), also called the Afrika Korps, was Germany’s expeditionary force in North Africa during World War II. It was first sent to support the Italian defense of its African colonies. The DAK fought across North Africa from March 1941 until surrender in May 1943.
The corps was led by Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, one of WWII’s most skilled tank commanders. His successes in desert warfare earned him the nickname “Der Wüstenfuchs” (“The Desert Fox”). The Afrika Korps remains one of the most famous German military units of the war.
