About the Stahlhelmbund:
Der Stahlhelm, Bund der Frontsoldaten (German for “The Steel Helmet, League of Front-Line Soldiers”), commonly called Der Stahlhelm, was a nationalist veterans’ group founded in Germany after World War I. The organization promoted revanchist ideals and drew inspiration from Italian fascism. It excluded Jewish veterans and supported restoring the Hohenzollern monarchy. Members distanced themselves from Hitler’s National Socialists, but the Nazis eventually suppressed their clubs.
After World War II, a Stahlhelm network formed again in West Germany. It continued to back fringe nationalist parties for decades. The group’s influence declined steadily, and the last local association dissolved in 2000.
