About the Eastern front medal:
The Eastern Front Medal (German: Ostmedaille), officially known as the Winter Battle in the East 1941–42 Medal (German: Medaille Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42), was a military decoration of the Wehrmacht established by Adolf Hitler’s decree on 26 May 1942.
This medal was given to any member of the Wehrmacht or Waffen-SS who participated in the German Eastern Front winter campaign between 15 November 1941 and 15 April 1942. It was also awarded posthumously to service members who died while serving in the Soviet Union. The medal was ironically nicknamed the Frozen Meat Medal or the “Order of the Frozen Flesh” (German: Gefrierfleischorden).
