About the Westwall medal:
Nazi Germany introduced the West Wall Medal on 2 August 1939. The award recognized military and civilian contributors who helped build the Westwall, also known as the Siegfried Line, between 15 June 1938 and 31 March 1939.
On 13 November 1939, the government expanded eligibility. Soldiers in the Wehrmacht who served on the Westwall for at least ten weeks could now receive the medal. By the time officials discontinued the award on 31 January 1941, they had issued 622,064 medals.
Collectors and historians value the West Wall Medal for its connection to early Third Reich fortification efforts. It represents a key moment in Germany’s military history and remains a sought-after item in WWII militaria.
